Creative Connections - Educators

Educators in Schools and School Districts in the Greater Orange County area are eligible to apply to be a part of the Creative Connections Program and receive a Creative Connections Teaching Artist Intern.

Teaching Artist Interns are UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA) graduate and undergraduate students majoring in Art, Dance, Drama or Music. Our goal is to provide CTSA students with training and a pathway to continuing their arts education while providing equitable access to arts education to area K-12 students.

Beginning in the October, Teaching Artist Interns are selected via a competitive application process and receive training in youth protection, lesson planning, classroom management, teaching and learning styles, along with resources and support from staff and area educators. They are matched with an area Educator who they will observe teaching at least once before the end of December.

Projects and Workshops are developed collaboratively with the Teaching Artist Interns and their Educators. Projects provide sustained access to arts education and span an entire school-year. Beginning in the January and continuing through the end of the school year, Teaching Artist Interns instruct lessons, coach students, and implement their projects. During this time, Teaching Artist Interns are expected to spend at least one (1) hour, and not more than three (3) hours, per week implementing their project. Past projects include, visual art and science integrated drawing lessons, guest choreography sessions, monologues direction, and one-to-one music lessons.

Priority will be given to schools receiving support from Title 1 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. There is NO FEE to participate, the Creative Connections program is entirely grant funded and is FREE to schools and school districts. Educators selected to participate in the program will collaborate with Teaching Artist Interns to ensure the project fits the needs of the classroom.
