Scholarships, Financial Aid & Discounts


 

We understand that paying for summer programs can be a financial strain, so we want to ensure that our Summer Academies in the Arts program is accessible to all students. Below are the different forms of financial assistance we offer. If you need additional assistance or have further questions, please contact Outreach at artsoutreach@uci.edu.

 

We are able to offer full and partial scholarships to participants who demonstrate both artisitic excellence, as well as financial need. At least four full scholarships will be awarded to participants, with at least one full scholarship in each of the four disciplines - Art, Dance, Drama, and Music - as well as a limited number of partial scholarships.

Please read the scholarship guidelines and complete the online Scholarship Application below. Due to the challenges faced by the novel coronavirus, we have extended our deadline to MAY 18, 2020 at 8:00 AM (PST). Incomplete and late applications will not be considered, no exceptions. Recipients will be notified via email by May 27, 2020.  Download a physical copy of our scholarship information here.

  
Criteria

Eligible students should demonstrate the following:

  1. Artistic excellence
  2. Financial need
  3. Good academic standing
  4. Interest in pursuing an artistic discipline as part of their college or career path
      

Application

To be considered to receive a Summer Academies in the Arts Scholarship, students must submit the following items:

  • Scholarship Application: Please fill out the online application and when prompted, select “Scholarship Applicant”. 
  • Application Questions: Students will need to answer a number of questions related to their college/career goals, education and training, past experiences, areas of expertise, and how this scholarship will support their goals. We ask students answer these questions to the best of their ability. Remember, this information is used to determine awarded amounts, so please take time and consideration in your responses.
  • Artistic Work Sample:
    • For Art Academies: Three (3) images of recent visual artwork.  
    • For Dance, Drama and Music Academies: A video, no more than three (3) minutes in length. Videos must show the applicant only. Videos of ensembles will NOT be accepted.
    • Work samples are not needed for the Animation or Digital Music Production courses.
    • Images should be JPEG, PNG, or PDF files. Video should be uploaded to a secure, file-sharing website (Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, YouTube, etc.). These files should be uploaded to their appropriate sections in the application.  
  • Letter of Recommendation: Should be from a teacher or instructor who can speak to the student’s artistic excellence and/or perceived financial need.
      

Evaluation & Award

All applications will be reviewed after the deadline according to artisitic discipline by faculty and/or staff of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Applications will be heavily weighed based on artistic excellence, academic standing, personal and professional goals, and financial need. Scholarship amounts may be used to offset registration costs only, and may not be used to cover the cost of meals or credit. Applicants will be reserved a spot in their Academy of interest in the meantime. Once scholarship amounts have been awarded, students will be able to formally register online, and if needed, pay the balance of their registration. Scholarships are subject to course enrollment and, though we do not anticipate needing to take such action, may be cancelled should enrollment not be sufficient.

Deadline & Submission

Applications must be completed and submitted no later than May 18, 2020 at 8:00am (PST). Incomplete applications will not be considered. Scholarships will be awarded by May 15th to recipients via email. Should there be a delay in the selection process, candidates will be notified via email. All scholarship applicants will be reserved a registration spot in their selected Academy.

 Students may apply for Financial Aid to help subsidize registration fees.  Financial aid will be provided to qualifying households based on the following:

The above chart is based on the 2019 Health and Human Services Federal Poverty Guidelines. Household income and size will determine the amount of aid awarded to the student. Applicants will be notified regarding the status of their application within two (2) weeks of receipt of application via email.  The financial aid awarded will be automatically deducted from their online registration.

Please note that although applications need only be submitted at least two (2) week prior to the first day of the Academy, we do have registration limits that often fill up quickly.  Financial aid is awarded on a first come, first served basis.  Therefore, we recommend submitting your application as soon as possible to secure your spot in the Academy.
